Making Sense of Spaces is a home organizing and space transformation service founded by Samantha Carlyon.

Organizing is not simply the work Sam does. It's how she creates and sees the beauty and possibilities in everything around her—understanding placement and seeing how environments can transform both a space and the way people feel.

As a business owner, wife, and mother, Sam understands how quickly homes need to adapt as life changes. While she's serious about the work, she believes the process should be enjoyable. She also believes that everyone sharing the space should be able to find what they need, know where things belong, and have simple systems that help manage their own belongings.

A Background in Retail, Operations & Visual Merchandising

 

Before founding Making Sense of Spaces, Sam spent years in retail management, operations, sales, and visual merchandising.

​

Her background included managing inventory, executing visual merchandising directives, developing stockroom systems, and creating environments designed around both the employees supporting the store and the customers shopping within it.

​​​

Through years of retail operations and product merchandising, she learned how every detail works together. From product presentation and floor layouts to the systems supporting them behind the scenes, each played a role in the customer's overall experience. Retail also trained her to recognize that even the smallest detail can make the biggest impact on a space.

​

Just as the sales floor and stockroom worked together to support the customer experience, living spaces and storage spaces work together to support daily life at home.
